Privacy Policy

1. Summary

Folia Family Calendar ("Folia") collects the minimum it needs to run a shared family schedule. We use nicknames and illustrated avatars, never real photos. We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

In short:

  • Folia is for parents and caregivers. Children appear only as a nickname and an avatar that a parent creates.

  • Your family's schedule is stored online so it stays in sync on every phone and survives a lost or replaced phone.

  • Only people you invite can see your family's schedule.

  • You can delete your data or your account at any time, inside the app.

  • Folia is free to use.

2. Who we are

This policy applies to the Folia Family Calendar mobile app for iPhone and the Folia website.

Folia is created and operated by an independent developer, who is the "data controller" responsible for your information.

You can reach us at any time through Contact us in the app's Settings.

In this policy, "we", "us" and "Folia" mean the developer of Folia. "You" means the parent or caregiver who uses the app.

3. Information we collect

Family profiles. A nickname (up to 20 characters), an illustrated avatar, and a role such as dad, mom, grandma, grandpa, nanny or other. Children get a boy or girl avatar style. You enter this information.

Schedule. Events with start and optional end time, type, place label, transport, the responsible family member, the child it is for, reminder time, repeat days, and one-day changes. You enter this information.

Free text. Custom event types or place labels of up to 30 characters, and feedback messages of up to 500 characters. You enter this information.

Account and sign-in. An anonymous identifier created automatically when you start. If you sign in with Apple or Google, an identifier from that provider. This is created by the app, or sent by Apple or Google.

Invite codes. Single-use codes that let another parent, relatives or nanny join your family schedule. These are created by the app.

Preferences. Default reminder time, "only my events" setting, schedule-change alerts, 12 or 24 hour time, and the first day of the week. You choose these.

Technical data. Basic server logs such as IP address, device and system version, and timestamps, used for security and fixing errors. This is collected automatically.

Notes

  • If you sign in with Apple or Google, the provider may share a name or email address with us. We do not use these to identify you inside the app and we do not show them to other family members. With Apple's "Hide My Email", we only see a private relay address.

  • When we add alerts for changes made by other family members, we will also store a push notification token for your device.

What we do not collect

  • Real photos of you or your children

  • Birthdates

  • Full names (we ask you to use nicknames only)

  • Your precise location, contacts, camera, microphone or photo library

  • Payment details

  • Advertising identifiers

Please do not enter home addresses, full names or other personal details in event names, place labels or feedback messages.

4. How and why we use your information

We use your information only to run and improve Folia. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the legal basis for each purpose is shown below.

Store and sync your family schedule across devices, and keep it safe if you change phones. Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Create your account, let you sign in, and handle invite codes and access rights. Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).

Send event reminders and schedule-change alerts. Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you, and your consent when you allow notifications on your phone (Art. 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(a)).

Keep Folia secure, prevent abuse and fix errors. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a safe and reliable service (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Read feedback and bug reports to improve the app. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving Folia (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests. Legal basis: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).

We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell it, build advertising profiles, or make decisions about you by automated means.

5. Children and family data

Folia is made for parents and caregivers. It is not directed at children, and children do not use the app or have accounts.

A child appears in Folia only as a nickname and an illustrated avatar that a parent creates, so the family can see which events belong to which child. We ask parents not to enter a child's full name, photo, birthdate, school name or home address anywhere in the app.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. You must be an adult (18 or older) to use Folia. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us through the Contact us form in Settings and we will delete it.

A parent can remove a child's profile at any time. Removing it also deletes that child's events.

6. Sharing with your family and invited members

A Folia schedule belongs to the family, not to a single login. Everyone you invite sees the same family nicknames, avatars, events, times and who is responsible for what.

  • Parents can view and edit everything, add or remove family members, and send invites.

  • A nanny can view the whole schedule but can only edit the events assigned to her, if it was set in the permissions.

  • Relatives, such as grandparents, can be added as a profile and assigned to events.

Invite codes. An invite code works once, expires after about 7 days, and is replaced if you generate a new one. Send it only to someone you trust. The person who enters it claims that profile and must sign in with Apple or Google to join, because they can edit shared data.

When someone leaves. If a person deletes their account, their profile is removed and their events stay in the schedule as unassigned. Other parents see the message "[Name]'s profile was removed from the schedule." The rest of the family keeps full access.

7. Who else receives your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We use a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions and under data processing terms:

Supabase. Hosts our database, authentication and live sync.

Apple. Provides Sign in with Apple, App Store services, and push notifications when they are enabled.

Google. Provides Sign in with Google.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of our users, or if Folia is merged with or acquired by another company. In that case we will tell you and the same protections will continue to apply.

Folia does not include third-party advertising or analytics tools.

8. Where your data is stored and how we protect it

Where and why. Your family schedule is stored online in our hosted database, provided by Supabase. We store it online so that every family member sees the same schedule, changes appear instantly on other phones, and your schedule is not lost if you delete the app or replace your phone.

How we protect it.

  • Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encrypted at rest by our hosting provider.

  • Each family can only access its own data. This is enforced in the database itself, not only in the app.

  • Permissions are role-based: a nanny can edit only the events assigned to her.

  • Folia has no passwords to steal. You sign in only with Apple or Google.

  • We collect as little as possible: nicknames only, no photos, no birthdates, no full names.

No online service is completely secure. If a data breach affects your rights, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

International transfers. Our providers may process data in countries outside your own, including outside the European Economic Area. Where this happens, we rely on safeguards required by law, such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. How long we keep it, and how to delete it

We keep your family schedule for as long as your family uses Folia. You are in control of deleting it.

  • If you have signed in: go to Settings and choose Delete account. We remove your sign-in and your profile, and revoke the Apple connection if you used Sign in with Apple. Your events stay in the family schedule as unassigned, because the schedule belongs to the whole family.

  • If you are the last signed-in member: we warn you and offer to delete the entire family schedule, including all profiles and events.

  • If you have not signed in: go to Settings and choose Delete my data. This deletes your schedule, because it is still stored online.

  • Deleting the app alone is not enough. Uninstalling Folia does not delete data stored online. If you never signed in, you may lose access to it. Sign in first, or use Delete my data before you uninstall.

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Deleted data is also removed from our backups after a short delay. Feedback messages contain no contact details and are kept only as long as they help us improve Folia.

10. Your rights and choices

You can do most of this yourself in the app: edit or remove profiles and events, change your preferences, and delete your data or account.

Under the GDPR and similar laws, you also have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy

  • Correct information that is wrong

  • Delete your information (the "right to be forgotten")

  • Restrict or object to how we use it

  • Receive your information in a portable format

  • Withdraw consent at any time, for example by turning off notifications in your iPhone settings

To use these rights, send a message from Contact us in the app's Settings and start it with "Privacy request". Please do not include names or personal details. We read every message and act on privacy requests, but we cannot reply to individual messages. The quickest way to see, correct or delete your information is directly in the app.

Complaints. You can complain to your local data protection authority. We would appreciate the chance to help you first.

US residents. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. You may ask us what we hold about you and ask us to delete it, using the same Contact us form.

11. Notifications, permissions and tracking

Notifications. Event reminders are scheduled on your own phone and do not need our servers. Folia asks for your permission to send notifications, and you can change it at any time in Folia's notification settings or in your iPhone settings. Alerts about changes made by other family members use push notifications, which are sent through Apple.

Permissions. Folia does not ask for access to your camera, photos, contacts, microphone or location.

Tracking and analytics. Folia does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and it does not use advertising identifiers.

Website. The Folia website does not use advertising cookies or analytics. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers when you visit.

12. Changes to this policy and how to contact us

Changes. We may update this policy as Folia grows. When we make an important change, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the bottom always shows the latest version.

Contact. Use Contact us in the app's Settings for questions about this policy or your data. We read every message but cannot reply to individual ones.

For privacy requests, start your message with "Privacy request". For feedback or bug reports, use Contact us in the app's Settings.
